Suspenders should most definitely come back in style.

January 24, 2012

This is one of those unfortunate days where I didn't feel too well and so, my photo was one taken at the end of the day because "oh no, I haven't taken a photo yet!"

Quiet evening activities. Unfortunately you can see my reflection rather than my Harry potter lego game.

January 23, 2012

I love few things less than an everything bagel with cream cheese.

January 22, 2012

I spend a lot of time on the Metra. On the weekdays they're crowded with business passengers. On the weekends, I love to get their early and enjoy the car by myself before all the tourists heading back home get on. Arriving early is my newfound practice of tranquility.

January 21, 2012

We had an old-fashioned game night. Old-fashioned in the sense that we (mostly) played just board games and face to face.

January 20, 2012

Another snowy weekend. This time Chicago is more ready for the snow. And I'm thankful for the remains of Christmas in the city; they make my heart happy.

January 19, 2012

A so so-turned-good night with the roommates, made happier with wine and lava cakes.

January 18, 2012

Recently I've been drinking a lot more tea than coffee. I find on a regular day, tea has a lot more flavor and it has less caffeine. This infuser is great for one cup of loose leaf tea.

Help me out!

Are you surprised I've succeeded thus far? Don't worry, I am too. But I am definitely enjoying myself and am excited to see what the year brings. [I do realize it's only been 18 days, so I can't get too confident just yet.]

If you're reading this daily and haven't subscribed or followed me yet, then please help me out and do so! You can click the orange "subscribe" button at the top of the sidebar ---->

or, you can subscribe by email if you're familiar with a Reader for RSS feeds [aka, mom].

Finally, if you've got Google anything, please do me a favor and click "follow" in the Followers section, also on the sidebar. Right now my sister is the lonely follower, so let's give her pretty face some company.

Thank you everyone!

The remnants of my Christmas decorations at work. They keep me cheered, so they might stay up a little whole longer...

Heroscape is a game that involves a little bit of skill and a lot of luck. It's very nerdy, but also rather fun. Especially with the new marvel superhero version that was an anniversary present. [Not to me, from me. Although I do play.]

January 15, 2012

This is to prove that I still exist and to demonstrate what I look like behind that iPhone. Consider it a rare opportunity, as I do not like my photo being taken. Nor does the person who took the picture like taking pictures. A good combination, I suppose.

January 14, 2012

Today was very relaxing, minus a very exciting outing (photos of which I cannot post because they have secrets which can't be revealed for two months).

I did find the energy to re-arrange the television area downstairs, so now we only have one TV and it looks much more like a normal entertainment center.

Plus I got some AV-splitters, to plug in all our/my electronic devices into one TV. Oh, first world problems.

First, let me say, Happy Birthday to my dear mother!!

I know this is very similar to yesterday's photo, but freshly fallen snow is one of the most beautiful things in the world, even if the sidewalk is unshoveled.

January 12, 2012

Today was our first "winter snow" here in Chicago. It was only 6 inches, but people reacted like it was the blizzard last year. Either way, it's pretty.

January 11, 2012

Today was another 50-degree day, and tomorrow is supposed to drop 6-8 inches of snow. I figured it was a good day for an outdoor run, in the spring-before-winter.

I have fallen in love with looseleaf tea. This ingenious infuser makes about 1.5 cups, or one really big cup, of looseleaf tea. To dispense it, you simply place it over the rim of the mug and it falls into the cup. Brilliant. [Except when you think your mug is bigger than it is and it begins to overflow...oops.]

January 9, 2012

Because I am a very anxious person, I often get stomach aches. Peppermint tea helps soothe those aches and pains. TMI? Maybe. But seriously, it does wonders.

January 8, 2012

Damen, early morning. Riding the first train.

January 7, 2012

I like to get to Union Station half an hour early, to get a good seat on the train and to have time to buy a snack if I need it. This early Sunday morning, it was just me and those who have found solace in the warmth of the Great Hall. I was also glad to see the Christmas decorations remained.

January 6, 2012

I love playing games, and I wish I did more of it. This is a new one called Funglish, recently introduced to me by a friend, that I thoroughly enjoy. It's like taboo, without speaking. And adjective cards. It makes for   a hilarious evening.

January 5, 2012

It was another ridiculously warm day for January, so I took the opportunity to walk around the park on my work-from-home day. It was so clear that you can make out the skyline-from 8 miles away-in the distance.

January 4, 2012

I seriously questioned the leg warmers trend for a while, but I love mine. On these 50-degree winter days, it's nice to be able to wear flats but not have my feet freeze in the early morning not-so-warm temperatures.

January 3, 2012

Three of my favorite things. My new photoshop (Christmas gift), US Weekly, and peppermint tea. Not a bad way to spend an evening.

January 2, 2012

Someone I know enjoys thinking about zombies. This was a Christmas gift. On the inside, if you pull it up over your head, there is a zombie face. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough to get that photograph. Maybe later in the year.

January 1, 2012

I got a wii for Christmas, and I love it. I also love buying games for it (as if I needed more things to spend money on...) Skylanders, though pricey and definitely a money-grabbing gimmick, is really, really fun. And it's Spyro! What's not to love?

A Photo a Day, Round Two

My intention is simple. I plan to take a photo every day. Attempting to be a part of the more formal "Project 365" groups that live on Flickr, I tried something like this in 2010. At first, I enjoyed the creative outlet and the challenge of coming up with something new every day. I made it into May before dropping off completely because, frankly, I put too much pressure on myself. Unless I had that perfect, artistic, expertly edited photo, I didn't want to post anything.

I felt like a failure when the pictures were of my nightstand, or of the food I ate that day. Part of this was because - honestly - my life isn't that interesting. Part of this was because Chicago in the winter + lack of a good indoor flash makes it hard to capture a quality photo for 365 days. But mostly, it was because I had set impossibly high standards for myself. You can read about this more on my regular blog, twentysomething. For my "resolution", I decided I'd again take a picture a day, this time with much lower expectations.

Firstly, I can [and will mostly] use my iPhone. While I love my Canon DSLR, I fail at goals like these because it's simply too bulky to carry around when I'm just heading to work and back on a daily basis. And, full disclosure, I feel awkward carrying around a huge camera to take pictures of lampposts and my neighbors' mailboxes. Overcoming those blockers are a part of my big-picture "resolutions." For this project, though, I know myself, and I want to set myself up for success. The iPhone 4S has a fantastic point and shoot camera, and after three moths I already have more than 500 photos. I think it's time I shared them with you.

Secondly, there is no "boring" shot. Sometimes, all I have to take a picture of that day is the bus. Or my alarm clock. Or my bed at the end of the day when all I want is to crawl into it. But this time, that's okay.

My goal at the end of this project, whether it last for a year, six months, or for the rest of my life [wouldn't that be awesome!], is to have a history of what my life is like today, as a young twenty-something in one of the greatest cities in the world. I anticipate a lot of changes in my life this year, and I am record them in one place, as a simple photo every day.

I hope you'll join me!
